Where we are building

While Habitat affiliates often build houses scattershot, wherever they can acquire land, Macon Area Habitat has broadened its focus from simple house-building to an outlook of revitalization with house-building as its center. To this end, we have selected Lynmore Estates ("The Peach Orchard") in south Macon as our target neighborhood. Once a thriving, post-WWII working-class neighborhood, Lynmore Estates has been left behind by recent development and expansion on Macon's north side. Abandoned houses make up almost a third of the neighborhood's 435 lots, while half of the homes are renter-occupied. The remainder are homeowner occupied.
