Light More Homes Christmas Celebration

During the Christmas season, families gather together in warm, comfortable, and well-built homes. Yet throughout Bibb and Jones counties, 23% of families live in substandard housing. Light More Homes is a Christmas celebration with a mission to raise funds to help families in need have decent, affordable places to live. See this year's invitation to the celebration below.

The program was birthed from a Macon Habitat board member’s desire to bring smiles to children and adults at Christmas while reminding all of the light of the world. It began as a residential yard display with music broadcast via FM transmitter. Later the program moved indoors and included the Live Out Loud children's choir singing to the music and lights. In 2008, the event was dramatically enlarged and moved to its current home at Chick-fil-A Riverside Parkway.

Chuck Hammock, a longtime friend of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity and partner of Andrews, Hammock, & Powell Consulting Engineers, uses his technical wizardry to create the show each year. To learn about Chuck's inspiration and personal journey, read the attached article from The Telegraph, Macon's local newspaper.

Today, the 45,000 lights, decorations, and music create a dazzling display that celebrates the glory of the season and brings JOY to those who witness it. The display happens nightly between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. The entire community is invited to watch and enjoy. Donations to Macon Area Habitat for Humanity inside Chick-fil-A restaurant are welcome.

Without the support of our sponsors, the Light More Homes Celebration could not happen. From in-kind support, to development and creative efforts, to cash support, Light More Homes involves the work of businesses across the community as well as countless volunteers. Please thank and patronize these fine Macon area businesses.
