We are currently accepting applications for the following positions:​

Construction Team Member

Purpose of Position:  To support all construction activities of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity (MAHFH).  As a Neighborhood Revitalization affiliate, MAHFH’s construction program includes primarily new construction, but also periodic rehabilitation/repairs of foreclosed and recycled units and critical home repairs and weatherization interventions to owner-occupied structures.  Additional affiliate construction activities include demolition and deconstruction. This position is full-time. There will be approximately two Saturdays a month required to work with volunteer groups.

 

Goals:

  1. Ensure that all Macon Area Habitat for Humanity construction projects are safe, have quality results, and are cost-effective.

  2. Provide appropriate leadership and delegation to all construction volunteers and subcontractors.

  3. Act as a responsible representative of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity to the community, volunteers, donors, partner families, Habitat for Humanity International and home applicants.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule and coordinate all construction efforts at the direction of the Executive Director

  2. Maintain detailed construction schedule for all projects

  3. Lead weekly Construction Meeting with MAHFH staff to coordinate construction timing, volunteer needs, etc.

  4. Facilitate the creation and modification of all home plans and site plans

  5. Coordinate site selection and preparation of all home sites

  6. Be familiar with all processes and steps necessary to complete all construction projects to plan

  7. Obtain construction permits and all necessary inspections in partnership with Construction Consultant

  8. Identify and procure the appropriate materials needed for each project, ensuring that adequate materials are available when needed

  9. Manage volunteers and contractors on the work site

  10. Supervise any staff assigned to MAHFH’s construction program

  11. Select, hire and fire all subcontractors, maintaining appropriate business relationship with each

  12. Ensure that building projects are completed on budget and in a timely manner

  13. Execute one-year home warranty for all Macon Area Habitat for Humanity homes, facilitating any needed repairs

  14. Review all construction related invoices and bills, verifying the validity of each and coding each according to Macon Area Habitat for Humanity’s accounting system

  15. Track construction costs on a per house and annual basis

  16. Identify the most cost-effective suppliers and contractors (based on the quality of their work)

  17. Maintain a list of preferred vendors and contractors, updating annually based on performance and cost

  18. Actively seek and secure in-kind donations of building materials to be used in MAHFH houses.

  19. Complete and maintain Competent Persons Certification and follow all safety regulations and seek immediate medical care when needed

  20. Stay abreast of current construction standards and local codes, as well as ensure that houses are built to Energy Star 3.0 Standards.

  21. Act as liaison to Habitat for Humanity International and the local Home Builders Association as necessary

  22. Secure tools, equipment and supplies needed for all construction activities

  23. Assure safety training is performed according to best practices

  24. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications

  • Commitment to the philosophy of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity and enthusiasm for the mission

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Positive and considerate team member

  • Dependability and integrity are essential

  • Ability to work well and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds

  • Preference given to individuals with construction experience, knowledge of Habitat for Humanity, a history of volunteerism; and, experience working with government funding.

  • Valid Georgia Drivers License

  • Preferred, but not necessary. Have a Georgia Residential Contractor License, or the ability to become licensed in a short time frame after hire.
